Poetry From Agitation Hill ft Myron Lysenko

  • The Chapel, Uniting Church of Castlemaine Lyttleton Street Castlemaine, VIC, 3450 Australia (map)

Please join us for a night of great poetry with Myron Lysenko, live in the chapel on top of Agitation Hill, Castlemaine and zoomed across space from there.

 6-7pm EST Friday, March 7th.

Myron will read for 20 minutes, followed by the popular QnA involving the live and on line audience, concluding with his encore - all over in one hour.

Lysenko was born Ukrainian in Australia, with Ukrainian being his first language. The first
writer he met was Kevin Brophy in 1972. They became close friends, founding Going
Down Swinging in 1980, setting up a publishing shed called Hit & Miss Productions, writing
a two-act play, and reading regularly at venues. Ross Donlon has been booking them as a
duo in Castlemaine for many years.
Lysenko’s poetry is dark or light, or a mixture of the two. He can be surreal, a bit absurd, a
little naive, or just plain little. Towards the end of the 20 th century, as his typewriter started
to run out of ribbon, he took up haiku, which soon became his favourite way of writing.
He has been called ‘the Leunig of poetry’, ‘Melbourne’s happy pessimist’, and ‘the stone
cold pizzas of our lives’. Lysenko was a promising young poet in the 1980’s and is better known today as an elderly poet, showing signs of great promise.

We meet on the lands of the Dja Dja Warung and pay our respects to elders past, present and forthcoming.

Many thanks to Sarah Tomlinson and the Uniting Church, Castlemaine for making the space available.
