PoetiCas has been hosting regular poetry gatherings in Castlemaine since 2015. Our monthly events have become a cherished part of the community. Regular monthly gatherings include a featured poet and an open mic segtion, which you register your interest on arrival. All are welcome. So, buy a drink from the bar and join us at The Coolroom at the Northern Arts Hotel, the home for PoetiCas.

Featured Poet ; Ross Gillett
Ross Gillett lives on Dja Dja Wurrung country in Daylesford, Victoria. His chapbooks The Sea Factory (Five Islands Press) and Wundawax and Other Poems (Mark Time Books) were published in 2006 and 2010 respectively.

Yvette is an award winning published poet and well-respected matriarch of the Melbourne poetry scene, from La Mama Poetica to the late great Dan O’Connell. She has performed in poetry festivals in Melbourne (Sonic Poetry) and Scotland (Belladrum Heart).

Poetry from Agitation Hill presents Jean Atkin, coming to us via zoom from the U.K. on Friday 20th June 6-7pm EST. It's a morning start for Jean to be here. Thanks, Jean.

Toby Davidson coming on down to Melbourne from the NSW Central Coast. Toby is in town to launch his new poetry collection (Readings Carlton w/ Mal Mckimmie also launching a new book). Launches give you a fine taste of the poet's work, but we've got him for two whole sets at Cherry! Plus open mic of course. Sign up from 1.30, gig starts at 2pm.

Our Poetry and Spoken Word events are (usually) held on the second Saturday of the month at 3 p.m., with a Poetry Writing Workshop running from 2 pm to 3 pm for anyone interested.

Our feature this June is the awesome Amanda Anastasi:
Amanda Anastasi is a Melbourne poet whose work explores both ecological and personal loss and transformation. She is the author of Taking Apart the Bird Trap (Recent Work Press, 2024) and The Inheritors (Black Pepper Publishing, 2021).

Our next feature at Cherry Poets is a chip off the old block, which he's also been around a few times. Why, if it isn't JOHN BEATON! It'll be a relaxed day of poetry with plenty of open mic, in that cosy little pub in Cremorne that we all know. Come along and join us! 1.30 for a 2pm start.

This June it will be an honour to host two deeply thought-provoking poets, Marion May Campbell and Priyanka Jain. Marion May Campbell is a queer-feminist poet, novelist and playwright who has stunned us on the open mic with her enthralling word-craft. Priyanka Jain is a performance artist with many stories to tell; but this Radio Laria we will be screening her surreal and compelling film “A Woman Navigates Her Way Through Breast Cancer.”

Café Philosophique runs the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Bridge Hotel in Werribee, exploring the hidden forces that shape our lives through music, poetry and conversation.

Hello everyone! We've got a gig coming up this weekend that is just chockers, full of everything you might want from a poetry gig. First up, we have the one, the only MATT HETHERINGTON coming down Melbourne way, with a special thirty minute show he has prepared - it'll be big, it'll be good, it'll be MATT! Second up, we also have an excellent mini-feature - Perth poet LOUISE HELFGOTT will be visiting our shores, and she will be performing a set for us early in the day.

PoetiCas has been hosting regular poetry gatherings in Castlemaine since 2015, following on the tradition of Ross Donlon's poetry readings in the decade prior. It has grown into a wonderful community and their monthly events are beloved by many.

The usual format brings a featured reader to share their work, as well as an open section for the community to share their own original poems in a warm and supportive space, MC'd by a local poet and publisher . All are welcome to attend, to read or just to listen.

Featuring on the day is Jade Walsh, visual artist, poet, and beat musician extraordinaire and one half of the sonic duo 'Fluffs', hailing from Ballarat and visiting to grace your ear drums with keyboard-accompanied beat poetry.

Hello folks, we've got quite a nice little poetry gig going on here at Cherry Poets, and yes, we also have it going on Easter Saturday! And we are super proud and excited to have an excellent feature during Easter - HELEN JARVIS, hot off the heels of a recent book launch. We're sure to get some new poems, maybe some old favourites, and who knows what else? Bring your own poems for sharing on the open mic, and we're going to have a little ol' poetry shindig - this Saturday, from 2 pm (doors open at 1.30), at the Cherry Tree Hotel.
