Penelope has been performing since childhood; callisthenics, jazz ballet, piano, music theatre, she toured America with the Children’s Performing Company of Australia at 15, Europe at 19, majored in Drama and English at Monash university, holds a Postgraduate Honours in Performing Arts, worked as a performer at Hunchbax Theatre restaurant, been in dozens of short films and performed at open mics in Melbourne and London as a singer/songwriter, accompanying herself on piano.

Straight off the back of a hugely successful Fringe Festival show among many other wonderful performances, Katie will show you why she makes every time she graces the stage a special occasion. This is not to be missed. She knows where you live.

Join bestselling Cypriot-Australian poet Koraly Dimitriadis for a performance of her poetry, focusing on her third, recently released poetry book, She's Not Normal, followed by a Q and A.

Poetry from Agitation Hill presents Lauren Williams Friday, May 3rd 6-7pm. Please join us for a night of great poetry. 20 min reading followed by a QnA involving the audience, concluding with Lauren's encore.

This May, Radio Laria has two remarkable feminist poets: Claire Gaskin and Kathleen Mary Fallon. Claire is the author of three poetry collections including the powerful, beautiful and confronting "Eurydice Speaks". Kathleen Mary Fallon is a poet, novelist and short story writer who has won the Victoria Premier’s award for her novel "Working Hot". This is an evening that will inspire and challenge.

PoetiCas has been hosting regular poetry gatherings in Castlemaine since 2015, following on the tradition of Ross Donlon's poetry readings in the decade prior. It has grown into a wonderful community and their monthly events are beloved by many. Lockdowns and uncertainty put their activities on pause for much of 2020 and 2021, and they are now thrilled to announce a new chapter at a fine new venue.

Ela is a much-loved Melbourne poet who has performed in many spaces, with poetry revealing her wide-reaching love and reverence of life. Simone is a fantastic unforgettable performer of poetry and music, who will have you laughing and crying within moments.

Experience the deeply thoughtful convergence of the political and personal in Caroline Williamson’s poetry, as she reads from her latest collection ‘Time Machines’ (Vagabond Press, 2022). Es Foong explores the strange geographies of belonging in their debut collection ‘Clot and Marrow’ (Recent Work Press, 2023). Winner of the 2022 Dorothy Porter Poetry Award and 2023 Venie Holmgren Environmental Poetry Award, Tim Loveday, will share his poetry exploring constructs of masculinity, domestic worlds and the self. And Zimbabwean writer Thabani Tshuma shares from ‘The Gospel of Unmade Creation’ (Recent Work Press, 2023) on reshaping, rebuilding and recovery.

Hello everyone, next Tuesday is Passionate Tongues Poetry night! And the feature performer is Sadie Shimmin-Clarke. It's always an exciting thing to introduce a new voice to the Melbourne poetry scene. Everyone who goes to Spoken Word At Bar Oussou knows Sadie's beautiful insights on life and the world around us. Very rarely do I ask somebody to feature on just one listening. But Sadie absolutely has to be heard more.

Our feature this week, Peter Bakowski, is one of the most respected and widely read poets in Australia. With enough published collections to fill his own section of a bookshop, Peter continues to refuse to rest on his considerable laurels, with two new collections (both co-written with Ken Bolton) being released in 2023 - ‘Waldo's Game’ and ‘On Luck Street’.
