Cherry Poets (& Poets Table) ft. Libby Charlton

  • Cherry Tree Hotel 53 Balmain Street Cremorne, VIC, 3121 Australia (map)

Cherry Poets is Melbourne’s premier destination for open mic poetry, and child of long-running and beloved Melbourne gig Dan poets. We are the place for poets to shout, sing, croon, chant, dramatise, lyricise, and elegise with new work, old work, and experimental work before an audience of poets and regular pub goers.

We will be running our regular Saturday gig right throughout the festival, inviting festival goers to come and participate on the open mic and hear the features, concluding with an Angela Costi and Peter Davis’s poetic collaboration on Saturday 9 September.

For the duration of the festival, Cherry Poets will also be holding a POETS TABLE, where poets can share or sell or swap their books and zines and pamphlets, open every Saturday. All funds from sales of a poets works will go back to the poet.

Hello Cherry Poets, and I think it's high time we had a Libby Charlton feature at the pub, don't you? Well, next week, for our first instalment in the Sonic Poetry Festival, LIBBY CHARLTON IS OUR FEATURE POET! We all know and love Libby - the heart and soul of the Dan poetry readings for many many years, MC extraordinaire, by turns both poet and cabaret chanteusse. Of course, I don't know exactly what she's got in store for us, but it will be special, it will be brilliant, and it will be LIBBY! Join us for a celebration of words and song on the open mic; bring your own poems or ballads or cabaret acts, and why not partake in a few beverages from the front bar while you're about it? It is going to be a SPLENDID occasion!

LIBBY WRITES:
So excited to be kicking off the Sonic Poetry Festival at the Cherry Tree Hotel.
I was one of the convenors at The Dan O’Connell Hotel for a long time and I’m so thrilled to be invited to feature and have a bloody good time with all my poetry friends.
Haha, Drinks, food, poetry and songs, and chairs as well, so no one has to sit on the floor. Comfort is the best! Sounds great doesn’t it, I’m into the whole idea.
See you on Saturday afternoon for
Poetry and Music, is there anything else?
Libby Charlton
