Why Not Believe in Everything?

  • Club Voltaire 14 Raglan Street North Melbourne, VIC, 3051 Australia (map)

"Why Not Believe in Everything?" is absurd theatre, including poetry ranging from, profound beauty to witty comedy to empowering feminism.
Written, produced and directed by Radio Laria Poetry convener Laura Fisher for Melbourne Fringe. This play boldly attempts to simultaneously tell of the Biblical Story of creation alongside evolution. Laura is a former religious studies student who is inspired by the language of the Bible and non-canonical texts.
This highly surreal play includes well known Melbourne performance poets: Eddy Burger, Katie Lohner and Pauline Sherlock, as well as multi-talented performers Damien Ng, Ebem Toala, and Vasi Samudra Devi.

In the attempt to explain the inconsistencies between Genesis and evolution, more questions are created than answered. If we evolved from monkeys, then perhaps Adam and Eve came from the trees. What does that say about God? And why is it that God sometimes gives us the answers and at other times, he is very quiet? Is it fair that Adam was made in God’s image whilst Eve is just a variation with lumpy bits? Was Adam’s first wife Lilith really such a bitch and did she have scales? And, on the subject of scales… are furry warm animals better than feathered or scaley cold ones? And who in this day and age believes in the incredulous story of Noah’s ark?
“Why Not Believe in Everything?” never gives up on the theory of evolution or the book of Genesis.
