Come on down to our first event as the new hosts of BSW. Bring a friend or three. Bring some of your words to share and/or an open heart and mind to listen. And we’ll provide the comfort of a cozy space, a warm greeting, a little silliness and laughter, and some raffle prizes to help us raise funds for future events.

Jude Chrisan is a boy learning how to be alive.

He’s a passionate connecter, poet, and professional cry baby.

Most importantly of all, Jude is a searcher for the beauty in the pain, in the mundane; he’s searching for the green in the grey.

He’s also a huge fan of hugs.

Our Poetry and Spoken Word events are (usually) held on the second Saturday of the month at 3 p.m., with a Poetry Writing Workshop running from 2 pm to 3 pm for anyone interested.

Radio Laria is going to end the year featuring two inspiring women: Micaela Sahhar and Simone Pereira. Micaela is an Australian-Palestinian writer of non-fiction, and poetry who sometimes blurs the lines between these styles with her experimental prose. Simone Pereira is a poignant and pensive poet who is well known on the Melbourne poetry scene for sharing her insightful poems and for listening to others. We are also looking forward to the open mic where poets, story-tellers and writers of all kinds are invited to express themselves

PoetiCas has been hosting regular poetry gatherings in Castlemaine since 2015, following on the tradition of Ross Donlon's poetry readings in the decade prior. It has grown into a wonderful community and their monthly events are beloved by many. Lockdowns and uncertainty put their activities on pause for much of 2020 and 2021, and they are now thrilled to announce a new chapter at a fine new venue.

Tucked in behind Sydney Road in Houdini Lane is Brunswick's best hidden secret... Red Betty. and the third Monday of each month is a poetry open mic where poets can Be Fearless!

This will be where poetry will be explored as an art form. Any kind of poetry is welcome, including the experimental and surreal. Musicians, hip hop artists, anyone who is willing to push poetic boundaries. It's all about enjoying art in a fun, safe, supportive space. It can be tough some days to find the silver lining. To wake up perked up and bounce through the day. For anyone really, but poets, oh everyone knows how poets are (and no one better than poets ourselves). So this Saturday we’re gonna go all out to prove that Poets Do Smile. We do have happy thoughts and write them down. Not always, but darn it sometimes! What makes you smile? Laugh? Just feel better/best about the world? Could be a humorous turn of phrase, a series of silly noises, totally up to you.

What do you need to do? Bring a poem or two and you. That’s it. SIgn up on the day, 5 minute limit. Too easy.
