Our Poetry and Spoken Word events are held on the second Saturday of the month *AT A NEW TIME* 1 p.m., with a Poetry Writing Workshop running from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Stay in touch for any wet-weather adjustments - as our new, regular Venue is outdoors (more information below.) PM me (Katharina Gentie) for my mobile phone number, if you need it.
Our feature this November is the inimitable Ynez Sanz.
Ynes Sanz, now permanently in Naarm/Melbourne, has written, read and judged poetry competitions in three states.
While an active participant in the Queensland Poetry scene, Ynes was shortlisted for an ABR prize and received the Arts Queensland Val Vallis Award for Unpublished Poetry. She was later a judge for the Vallis Prize.
She has judged and mentored for the Ipswich International Poetry Feast and Qld Society of Women Writers, among others, and enjoyed a stint as Poet-in-Residence at the Royal Mail Hotel, Goodna, in Queensland.
Previously published collections include Fanny the Flying Housewife, Flash Harry, Jeweller's Loupe and The Pity - Unheard voices from The Great War.
In 2019, Ynes moved to Darwin/Garamilla where she read at the 2020 Writers Festival and was published in the inaugural print edition of 'Borderlands' (Charles Darwin University 2020).
Her collection 'The Guiding Seabird’ was launched and read at the Northern Territory Writers Festival in 2022, and in that same year Ynes’ poem 'Sensuikan' was a finalist in the NT Literary Awards.
During her five years in the NT, Ynes helped to run Wild Words, Darwin's monthly spoken word open mic session.
Her writing can be found on-line on numerous sites including StylusLit.com/
Ynes loves fancy dress and on any given day may or may not look like this … or someone completely different!
An 'open mic' is available for as many poets as possible before and after our feature (or as much poetry as we are happy to share before our time is up).
Tickets:
This event is ticketed using ‘Pay as you Feel’ via Stickytickets, as the Gardens (or other venue) will continue to be open to the general public. Therefore, open-mic and feature presenters are asked to keep their works in the 'PG' range for this event.

Introducing Vespertine Gardens:
Located in Dandenong’s inner west, Vespertine Gardens is a new community garden, designed as a space for creativity, connection and care for nature. Vespertine Gardens invites locals to come together to share in gardening and the celebration of the natural world within city life.
This project was brought to life by West Alchemy Collective, who are a passionate group of Dandenong West residents, traders, and creatives. As a collective, the potential was recognised to reclaim vacant land and were inspired to transform it into a green urban sanctuary, as a place to belong.
Save the Date: Official Opening – end of 2025. More details on the celebration to come!
