PoetiCas has been hosting regular poetry gatherings in Castlemaine since 2015. Our monthly events have become a cherished part of the community. Regular monthly gatherings include a featured poet and an open mic segtion, which you register your interest on arrival. All are welcome. Featured Poet ; Ross Gillett
Ross Gillett lives on Dja Dja Wurrung country in Daylesford, Victoria. His chapbooks The Sea Factory (Five Islands Press) and Wundawax and Other Poems (Mark Time Books) were published in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
His full-length books The Mirror Hurlers and Swimmer in the Dust were released by Puncher and Wattmann in 2019 and 2022. His awards for poetry include the Newcastle Poetry Prize, the John Shaw Neilson Award (twice), the Woorilla Poetry Prize, the NSW and Melbourne Poets Union Prizes, and most recently the 2023 Ada Cambridge Poetry Prize.
He has been shortlisted for numerous prizes, including the Blake and Peter Porter Poetry Prizes and the ACU, Bridport and Montreal prizes. Ross is a poetry editor for Puncher & Wattmann and Liquid Amber Press, and also works as a freelance editor and poetry mentor.
