After a sold out 3rd Birthday Poetry Slam, Wordcraft is back this month with our spoken word open mic.
Here, we celebrate our stories raw and in process. Storytellers of all walks of life show up on our stage to share their writing, their poetry, journals, love letters and more.
We believe that spoken word is the most accessible artform, it doesn't discriminate against any marginalised label our world has stuck on you. You can show up and share your truth as raw and real as you are, and we will only applaud you all the way to the stage and beyond.
WE HAVE 10 SPOTS ON THE OPEN MIC. REGISTER ON THE DOOR.
This month we are featuring the starlight that is, tyrnyr
Starting out jotting short poems inspired by 90s folk girl lead singers, tyrnyr is the latest evolution of a writer having the courage to take her queer, cerebral, alliterative work from secret scribbled page to the spoken word stage.
tyrnyr debuted at Wordcraft in 2023, and has gone on to consistent top three placements at several Wordcraft and Slamalamadingdong events. She is an alumni of the inaugural Wordcraft Writers group. Poetry featured centrally in her performance works ‘Eve St John’ and ‘Burlesque by Force’. Her first official collection ‘Ulysses’ is scheduled for release in 2024, featuring pieces she has also released as sonic-collaborations on Bandcamp, Spotify and iTunes.
Come for the community, stay for the poetry xx
Hosted by Australian Poetry Slam Champion and Wordcraft Mamma, Ren Alessandra
Housekeeping and Accessibility notes:
This event is BYO. Please NO hot food inside the venue and drink responsibly. We also have a strict no dickhead policy, so just like, don't be one. We have no qualms asking you to leave.
We have a Soft Space which is further away from the crowd but still a great view of the stage. This space is to soften sensory stimulation as there is loud applause, performance and music. Please consider your needs and if this space is right for you on the night. We endeavour to make the space as accessible as possible, given the nature of the event, however there are only so many changes that can be made.
COST: $15
