Assorted Sporks is a free, queer friendly regular poetry and performance night at Mamma Chen's on Thursday March 26th

Featuring; Fleassy Malay

Theme: Pleasure, Blurred Lines, Joy as Resistance

Themes are not mandatory, they are just to encourage you to experiment with your writing and improvisation. Feel free to make it weird.

Fleassy Malay (They/Them/She/Her)

Two times TEDx speaker, award winning poet, Fleassy Malay, is an internationally renowned, evocative and powerful spoken word artist, speaker and educator. They are a global advocate for Women’s and LGBTQI+ rights and a fierce voice for the power of authenticity and courage as a social change tool.

Fleassy is the founder of Melbourne’s acclaimed NFP organisation and Women's Spoken Word event, Mother Tongue Poetry. Winner of the Reciter of the year 2022 National Folk Festival Prize and Nominated to represent Melbourne at Slamovision in Dublin Unesco City of Literature in 2025. Fleassy was also on the first slam team to represent Australia in the National Poetry Slam USA in 2017.

Fleassy has a theatrical and yet deeply authentic performance, writing, and speaking style, renowned for captivating their audiences with depth, honesty, and humour.

7:00 pm for a 7:30 pm start, sign up will be available on the night.

5 minute limit.

Perform your poetry, creative writing or performance art on the open mic to a friendly audience or come and be part of the crowd. There are going to be themes, writing prompts. Completely free. Hosted by Quil, aka Loran Steinberg (they/them) Sound by George O'Hara (he/they).

To keep this event a safe space for everyone, there will be no hate speech or your mic will be turned off and you may be asked to leave the stage.
