Café Philosophique: Bodies

  • Bridge Hotel 197 Watton Street Werribee, VIC, 3030 Australia (map)

Café Philosophique explores the hidden forces shaping our lives through creative arts, writing and conversation.

We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Bridge Hotel in Werribee. We explore a new theme each night through a performance or workshop, feature poet, prompted creative writing, an open mic, and facilitated conversations.

On Wednesday August we will explore BODIES.

Am I my body, or do I have a body? If my body changes, do “I” change? Where does the self live - in the brain, the heart or the gut? How much of our body image is socially constructed?

These are just some of the questions we will explore on the night!

We will begin with a drawing class focusing on the body. Led by local artist Cathy Mackay-Ardizzon we will spend some rare time intimately examining ourselves and the lines, contours, blemishes, and shades that make our bodies uniquely ours.

We will then hear from our feature poet who will set the scene for our own writing time, using prompts to help put pen to paper to explore our own relationship to the night's theme.

After our open mic, we will end with delicious desserts and our "philosophy café" - small group, facilitated conversations where we listen and learn from each other about our relationships with our bodies.
