Millennium Poets II anthology launch

  • The Empress Hotel 714 Nicholson Street Fitzroy North, VIC, 3068 Australia (map)

Connecting the arts and poetry scene of the city through the 1990s to now.
This is a story of longevity and currency in Melbourne's arts scene, particularly the second iteration of an anthology of poets connected to the Millennium Poets scene from the late 90s, in and around Fitzroy. It is also the story of the effort to bring them together again to release a book of their current works, revive the original volume, and launch the new book at the hotel where the scene originally started.
We have spent the past year researching the original anthology, of which there are rare copies, and making contact with the poets involved.
We have worked with the poets to assemble an anthology of their current works, as well as reformatting their original book to share again.
The Empress Hotel, in North Fitzroy- the key venue where the original poetry readings happened, leading to the assembly of the first anthology- has welcomed hosting a launch of the new book on Saturday 28 March 3-6pm.
We are working with the poets to promote the anthologies, and to try and arrange reviews of the books and interviews to share their readings and tell their own stories about their connection to the original Millennium Poets scene, its significance to them and their experience and thoughts on the rich place poetry holds in the heart of this artistic city.
