Perc.U.Lations ft. Peter Bakowski

  • Dandenong Library 225 Lonsdale Street Dandenong, VIC, 3175 Australia (map)

Greetings all Perc.U.lators!

Firstly, let me share some great news! We now have a new home in the Dandenong Library. There is both free and paid parking around the library, and the Dandenong Train Station is quite close as well.

Our Poetry and Spoken Word events will be held there on the second Saturday of the month at 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm until the end of the year, and hopefully beyond.

If you'd like to attend the poetry workshop beforehand, we are back in the nearby Walker Street Art Gallery, using their exhibition ... as an inspiration for our own works. The workshop will start at 1pm and go until 2 pm. Then I'll head over to the library to set up. Do consider wandering past the The Nong Café for a quick bite or a takeaway coffee, though!

Let's make May magnificent and marvellous!

Our feature this May is Peter Bakowski!

Born in Melbourne, Peter Bakowski has been writing poems for 44
years. He writes as clearly as possible and continues to concentrate on portrait poems of real and fictitious individuals, to return the reader’s attention to our human selves, which resist generalisation, demographics and predicable behaviour. His poems continue to appear in literary journals worldwide in English and translation. Peter specialises in giving poetry readings in private houses. Throughout 2026 Peter is promoting his new full-length poetry collection, “Necessary Wonder”.

Additional Information:

The Dandenong Library is a public space, and many young people and families visit on the weekend. If you aren't certain that your work is appropriate for this space, please approach me beforehand.

Perc.U.lations is affiliated with Radio Laria and is committed to highlighting the voices of local women and gender-diverse poets, and other marginalised voices.

Perc.U.lations is taking place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded, and we extend our respect to all Indigenous elders past, present, and emerging.

I am so looking forward to seeing you in our new home!

Be there, or be prose...
