Let's make March Extraordinary!

Our feature this March is Krystel Herdy!

Krystle Herdy (she/her) is a queer, disabled poet and editor based in Naarm. She wrote a short story at age seven that made her mum cry, and she has been writing ever since. Critics beyond her family have described her poetry as bold, fresh, and unflinchingly vulnerable in

It's attention to the fragile ways we reach for connection.

Her first poetry collection, Mythology Mechanic, was published while she was still an undergraduate. Her work has appeared in Australian and international journals, and in 2025, she won the June Shenfield National Poetry Award.

Currently at work on her next collection, Krystle sees poetry as a way to explore and untangle life’s contradictions—an art form that creates room for both precision and ambiguity, structure, and chaos, all at once.
