Labrish Spoken Word @ The Malthouse

Malthouse Theatre presents Labrish, the community program for the season of The Hate Race, a theatrical adaptation of Maxine Beneba Clarke’s bestselling memoir, starring Zahra Newman and accompanied by musician Kuda Mapeza.

Part of 'The Hate Race' by Maxine Beneba Clarke in March, before and after the play, we will be hosting an array of black artists in poetry, art, music and dance form as part of the community engagement program called 'Labrish' and part of that is spoken word. Labrish is an activation of workshops and musical spoken word events surrounded by community elevation, mental health resources and access to discounted tickets. It is designed for people who identify as African diasporic, First Peoples, people of colour and underrepresented creatives.
