Gayelene Carbis’s book of poetry, I Have Decided to Remain Vertical (Puncher and Wattmann) was recently awarded the Writers’ Choice Award 2025 (Greece). In 2024, her book won the Eyelands Book Award (Greece); Highly Commended, NSW Society of Women Writers Poetry Book Award; Distinguished Favourite, NYC Big Book Award; and Finalist – Poetry Book Award U.K.; Best Book Award Poetry U.S. 2023 and 2024. Gayelene’s poetry, prose and short film have been awarded various prizes in Australia and overseas and published/performed widely. Gayelene works as a writing mentor and teaches Creative Writing in universities and community centres. She lives on Boonwurrung country.
